Nadi smiled to herself, hearing him, thinking he had mixed her up with Kia like so many others. She hurried back the way she'd come, passing the spot where'd she'd left her companion. She slowed there, however, glancing around in the shadows for anyone and anything, someone. She took a step and immediately felt the air rush out of her lungs in one sharp beat. A head pressed itself into the space between her shoulder blades, and rough black hair tickled the nape of her neck. She heard a soft growl, and even though she was unable to breath, she choked out a laugh.
"Why'd you leave Kips. Why." The voice was quiet and as rough as the black hair on the boy's head. "We told you to stay with her." His arms tightened around Nadi, and there was a crack.
"Careful Cene, you don't want to hurt her now do you?" But the black haired boy was already releasing Nadina, his face an angry twist of fury and worry. Nadina took a step back, catching her breath and looking up at her brother with an innocent expression.
"I didn't really break the rules, not really."
Kia, standing beside another man, rolled her eyes. "Be more careful. If he would have done something, we would not have been happy. Even being the mutt that he was-"
"He was a mutt?!" Both the black haired boy and the other male shouted at once. They both turned to Nadina, looking for answers.
"He's nice. And he didn't do anything."
"Yet. Dina, we're trying to think about you here. Your safety."
"He wouldn't have hurt me."
"If I ever see him, all you'll see is his blood all over the ground."
"No need to be vividly descriptive, Cene. Contain yourself."
The boy growled, glaring with bright red eyes at the older wolf. But he was also the first to turn away. He skulked off, kicking a piece of rubble. He was thirsty for the kill. He hadn't had a decent adversary in so long... and this was the perfect reason to kill someone, not that he needed a purpose to. Killing for the purpose of killing was enough.
"Alright... now that we've 'rescued'," She shot a glance at Nadina, smiling teasingly. "Our little run away, we can get down to business. She sat down on the ground, soon followed by Nadina and the other man. The boy was off somewhere, still sulking. "Anzelm, did you find anything?"
"No. Just rubble for miles. And we already know what you found. A half-breed." He used the polite term, keeping his eyes trained on Kips. "So, now we need a new plan."
"We could invite Kear to come with us."
"Who?"
"The man we met. He could join us."
"No." The boy appeared beside Nadina in a flash of movement, his eyes smoldering. "No half-blooded mongrel is getting anywhere near this pack." He snarled, fangs exposed like a vampire.
"Let's not be rash." Anzelm turned his attention to the hovering wolf, once again meeting his angry gaze with his own calm one. "No one said this half-breed couldn't be helpful. In fact, he could be very useful to us. And, Dina did imply that he was trustworthy."
"It's up to Cene. What's your decision?"
"Brother?" Nadina looked up at her little brother with pleading eyes.
Cene snarled again, stepping back. "I'll allow it. But he stays away from me. If he does one thing I don't like.." He didn't need to finish- they all knew what he would what happen.
